Historical significance: This house was built for Edmund F. Wickham in 1891 as his second residence on Vandeventer Place. Before building this residence, Wickham had lived at 43 Vandeventer Place. Wickham was a partner in the corporate law firm, Hesser and Wickham, and also ran E. F. Wickham and Co. which was a coal company. He remained at 28 Vandeventer Place until his death in 1908, and his wife Emily continued to live in the mansion until her death in 1920. Emily was a member of the Catlin family, who also had family members living at 15 and 21 Vandeventer Place at the time. Edmund and Emily’s daughter, Emily C. Wickham, was the Veiled Prophet Queen in 1901.
Architectural significance: This house was built in 1891 in the Queen Anne style, which was one of the popular styles at the time. The house featured a small turret on its eastern side, and a hipped roof with gabled dormers.
